Ten tips for people who wish to market on twitter.

1) Be a community Tweeter: Real twitter users can spot a blatant marketer in an instant. To be successful you need to offer value. Reply to people and engage yourself in conversations.

2) Tweetlater: The more you tweet the more followers you get. Obviously You cannot tweet in your sleep. This is were tweetlater comes in. Use it to schedule tweets. I use it to tweet tips and in those tweets I link to an article that elaborates on that tip.

3) Increase your productivity: Time is money. Use tools and plugins like powertwitter, twitterbar and tweetdeck to become uber efficient.

4) Utilize tweetgroups: Yesterday we looked at tweetgroup a tool that allows to create a very powerful automated twitter group. Find these groups and send them some tweets. This will broaden your reach and get more traffic to your offers.

5) Keep up with the buzz: Use tools like tweetscoop and tweetcloud to find out what’s hot and then add your thoughts. This will put you in front of thousands of potential followers.

6) Look good: Make sure you have a neat profile picture, background and good bio. Make sure you link to your blog. First Impressions!

7) Promote discussion: Send out a tweet asking people what they think about a certain topic. Be engaging with your followers. There’s nothing worse then a robot tweeter.

8) Follow those who interest you: Following too many people can leave you inundated with pointless irrelevant tweets. Be sure to follow people who offer you value.

9) Incorporate your tweets into your blog: Whether you have a wordpress , blogger or typepad blog make sure you have a twitter widget enabled. Readers can easily follow you. Also add a “tweet this link” on your posts to further boost traffic.

10) Be thankful and have fun. At the end of the day we’re humans. so be a human and have fun and interact first, market second.
