Rumours: Google to Purchase Twitter

Twitter is all-a-rumour today with several news sources revealing that negotiations betweeen google and twitter are in the early stages.

Google is in late stage negotiations to acquire Twitter. We don’t know the price but can assume its well, well north of the $250 million valuation that they saw in their recent funding.

Rumours have surfaced of a potential purchase of twitter by google. An article on techcrunch reveals that two close sources have revealed that google are in negotiations with twitter. It easy to see the reason behind google’s interest. The real time search feature is something that google would surely love to get their hands on.

Ian Paul of PCworld commented on the rumous, saying that he thought google wasn’t buying after CEO Eric Schmidt called twitter a “”poor man’s” email system”.

With a staff of 29 Twitter has seen 900 percent traffic growth in the past year. Twitter recently turned down a 500million offer by facebook because the offer was based on overpriced stock. Google’s publicly valued stock is almost as good as cash and an enticing offer. Biz Stone (co-founder) of twitter is no stranger to google having previoiusly sold blogger to google.
